Bridal Fashion Week 2022 was just a couple of months ago, which showcased some of the most innovative and striking designs we’ve seen that will set the stage for next year’s wedding gown choices. From elegant Bridgerton-inspired gowns to dramatic feathered necklines, there’s no shortage of inspiration to take from if you’re having a wedding next year. With the pandemic nearly done and over, brides are craving something a bit more unique and exciting to make up for the hardships we all faced. If this is you, read on to get all the details on the 2022 wedding dress and color scheme trends.
2022 Wedding dresses are looking exceptionally celebratory and we’re seeing almost every bridal gown style under the sun. From mini dresses to chic feathers to whimsical florals to Bridgerton-inspired ball gowns, this upcoming year may be the most heterogeneous era we’ve ever experienced. Here were the most well-received styles from 2022 Bridal Fashion Week.
We know, florals aren’t necessarily the most interesting or groundbreaking trend on this list. But what makes this trend special (and why we had to include it on this list) is how the designers reinvented it. Markarian, for example, debuted three-dimensional floral embroidery, while other designers showed off florals paired with sequins. We even saw some color florals with some bold and vibrant designs. So florals are definitely still an option to choose if you’re looking for a modern twist on a classic.
Thanks to Netflix’s hit, Bridgerton, Regency-era designs are having a major spotlight moment. If having a fairytale wedding is a dream of yours, this trend is more than enough of an excuse to dress up like the princess bride you’ve always imagined. From puff sleeves to square necklines to corsets to dainty bows, there are so many fun ways to mix modern-chic with timeless elegance.
It’s almost as if wedding dress designers decided that we’re done with the minimalist trend and now, we’re becoming maximalist. In terms of weddings, at least. Bridal Fashion Week featured a plethora of dramatic dresses that included extravagant feathers and luxurious ruffles fit for a large, celebratory wedding.
While wedding sets became a trend a couple of years ago, we’re still loving the modern vibe that they bring. Not only are they comfortable, but they illustrate this air of boldness you just don’t always achieve with a dress. They’re also becoming more innovative and fashion-forward as we get more comfortable and familiar with this style. Look towards Nordeen and Scorcesa for inspiration if this is the kind of look you’re going for.
It was quite difficult to find long gowns last year because of the pandemic, and elopements became a popular choice of ceremony, so it’s easy to see why short and mini dresses became extremely popular. Not only are they convenient to find, fit, and tailor compared to a floor-length gown, but they’re also easy to move in! Not to mention you can show off a killer pair of shoes while you’re at it.
If you love the idea of having a sweet and romantic wedding, an off-the-shoulder dress may be for you. The open neckline is very reminiscent of Disney princesses, who often conjure up feelings of sophistication, grace, and class. What we love most about this trend is that it’s not constrained to one type of fabric or pattern — you can add an off-the-shoulder look to literally any dress style you love.
We saw an abundance of thigh-high slits at Bridal Fashion Week, and we believe it’s because many of us are restless, staying at home with nothing much to dress up for. So many brides are now looking for something femme and timeless, but also a striking — which is what a skirt slit achieves. It’s the perfect subtle and dramatic look brides are looking for as we celebrate in-person weddings again.
2022 wedding color scheme trends are just as diverse and new-age as gown styles. Here are some of the most popular picks we can look forward to at next year’s weddings.
Warm and natural tones are the biggest trend for 2022, especially colors like sage, marigold, and burnt sienna. Note: depending on the season you have your wedding, change up your earthy color palette. For example, spring is great for sage, summer is perfect for marigold, and fall lends itself excellently to burn sienna.
Vintage decor is making a comeback, and so naturally, metallic color palettes are going to be a huge theme for 2022 — especially gold. We love that you can pair different shades of gold with many other colors to make your wedding color scheme unique to you and your partner’s personality. For example, a rusty gold or copper with sage feels very bohemian, whereas bright gold and deep blue can feel very modern. Gold also makes a great accent color, so you can have a lot of fun with your decor, like using copper mugs, and wedding party outfits, like with jewelry and shoes.
Beige, sand, and tan are all making their presence known. For many of us, the pandemic made us realize maybe we don’t need luxury and extravagance to be happy because we’ve found joy in the simple things in life. Muted colors like these are a perfect reflection of that — they lend themselves to a more casual, laid-back, and relaxed vibe.
When we think of jewel tones, we usually think of vibrant and bold colors. But right now, we’re seeing more muted versions of these colors. Think color pairings like dusty pink + sage, lilac + violet, and light blue + midnight blue. It’s a very soothing yet stunning and natural color palette, and it’s not too busy and bold.
That wraps up your guide to 2022 wedding dress trends! Let us know in the comments what color scheme or style you’re most excited about.
