Well ladies and gentlemen; we mentioned it was coming for a while and here it is! Studio Veil is now offering Day of Wedding Coordination! After working our way into five different services and winning awards for said services we finally have the infrastructure to help our couples get through the hectic nature of the wedding day. Now, a lot of people might not know what goes into coordination or if a coordinator is actually necessary, so we have provided some info to help.
What’s does a coordinator do? If you have ever been to a construction site and met with a foreman, or been to a retail store and spoken with the floor supervisor you can get a great idea of how it works to be a coordinator. They will be the person to help direct the flow of the wedding day so that the newlyweds can focus on what is important…the wedding! After all, it’s never fun to have to leave guests and your spouse to go let four different vendors know that you have to move the speeches/toasts back ten minutes because your best friend ran outside for a family photo, or to figure out what should happen with the gifts during the reception. Your coordinator will be there for the rehearsal as well as your wedding day to help guide you and your family through whatever happens to make sure you have an incredible wedding!
How necessary is a coordinator? Some couples will never need one, and some venues require one. It all depends on the experience you are looking to have. If you are intimately familiar with how a wedding progresses and all the pieces involved, you might not need one. Day of coordination is meant for everyone else who is looking to not have to deal with all the small details, and instead enjoy the event, knowing that it’s in good hands. One thing I tell all my engaged friends is that something will go wrong; with that many pieces of the puzzle coming together something is bound to go wrong. Almost every time it’s some small hiccup along the way that can go completely unnoticed as long as you have good people working for you and with you. This is where the coordinators become the hero; whether it’s finding a way to problem solve on a very strict time frame, or bringing along those small items from the Emergency Kit to save the day.
What is the difference between a wedding planner, and a wedding coordinator? A wedding planner is typically one of the first vendors booked. They help you find which vendors to work with as well as helping couples through the small details that can be easily forgotten months before the wedding invites even go out. A wedding coordinator is someone that will still meet with you before the wedding, but much later than a planner would. They are available to help with a bit of the planning, but their true strength comes in their day of service. Most of the time a coordinator will start working with the couple when the timeline needs to be finalized; typically one to two months before the wedding. They will help as an advisor to any last minute plans that need to be made, and then show up on the rehearsal to make sure everything goes well.
“What if we still want to take care of some of the details the day of?” Your coordinator will be more than happy to work with you to take any tasks you don’t want to deal with and let you take control whenever you wish.
What is your coordinator like? Years ago I, an unpaid intern at a growing wedding company, stood at a wedding fair and was taken aback by all the magic around me. The emotional high of the brides coupled with the high energy atmosphere instilled in me a desire that pushes me at every wedding to make each one as breathtaking as possible. Now, years later, I have come to my own as as a wedding coordinator.
