“Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.” Every wedding has many traditions that we all cater to, but to how many of them do we know the origin?
You have the dress, the flowers, and now what about the veil? It’s tradition, but how did it even start? Many years ago in a far off land called Rome it was thought that brides could fall victim to evil spirits; a way they would combat this is to have a flame colored veil to scare the spirits away.
Yet another origin was back when arranged marriages were very prevalent. Often times this would be the first time a groom would see his bride, and to save people from embarrassment on the groom’s first reaction upon seeing his bride, and/or to keep him from running if he disapproved of her looks she would be veiled.
Over time that has progressed to the modern day veil which can range in many different shapes and sizes.
